This contribution is by John Adker.
On the left you can see the female and on the right admidst the hatchlings, there is the male. Most of the smaller snakeheads are mouth brooder. The male keeps the eggs for (roughly) a week in its mouth. After release of hathclings the male always stays with them. They feed the brood with unfertilized eggs. The female stays away from the father family, producing eggs for food. Therefore the female still has a very large belly after breeding. In fact, the belly can be larger than before.
Thank you John for your nice contribution!
