Aanm. Deze sort is na verwant aan Ophicephalus marulius Ham. Buch. net welke zij de oogvormige vlek boven aan de basis der staartvin gemeen heft. Ophicephalus marulius heeft evenwel donkere schuinsche dwarsche banden over het ligchaam en de vertikale vinnen, vooral de rugvin, met witte vlekjes geteekend en voor de vinstralen de formulen D. 56. A. 36 (volgens CV.) of D. 52 ad 54 A. 31 ad 35 (volgens Hamilton Buchanan).

De korte opgave in de groote Historie naturelle des Poissons betrekkelijk Ophicephalus iris, gedaan naar eene Chinesche teekening, past nagenoeg geheel op het boven beschreven specimen, doch is te onvolledig om over de identiteit der soort te laten oordeelen.
